$5 Million Bezos Day 1 Families Fund Grant Awarded to SVdP CARES to Help Solve Homelessness
St. Vincent de Paul CARES is the recipient of a $5 million grant awarded by the Day 1 Families Fund, which will support its continuing efforts to end family homelessness in the Tampa Bay area. The funds will be used over two years through a new program, No Child Left Outside. This program will target 400 families – with an estimated 1,000 children – facing homelessness in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties and rapidly rehouse them into stable and permanent housing.
“St. Vincent de Paul CARES has been working to make a dent in family homelessness in the Tampa Bay area for the past eight years,” said Michael Raposa, CEO of St. Vincent de Paul CARES. “While we have achieved great success with each individual household, the number of people in need has been simply daunting. This amazing gift from the Day 1 Families Fund will make our dream of no child left outside a reality for hundreds.”
No Child Left Outside will create a revolutionary homeless crisis response system through committed partnerships with the Pinellas County School System and the Tampa Hillsborough Homeless Initiative. This program will change the trajectory of the lives of hundreds of children, giving them a greater opportunity to achieve excellence and look to a future where they know they can thrive.
The Bezos Day One Fund was launched in 2018 with a commitment of $2 billion and a focus on two areas: funding existing nonprofits that help homeless families, and creating a network of new, nonprofit tier-one preschools in low-income communities. The Day 1 Families Fund issues annual leadership awards to organizations and civic groups doing compassionate, needle-moving work to provide shelter and hunger support to address the immediate needs of young families. The vision statement comes from inspiring Mary’s Place in Seattle: no child sleeps outside. For more information, visit www.BezosDayOneFund.org/Day1FamiliesFund.
